Trauma-Informed Paraprofessionals

The Future of Health and Human Services
Require a Skilled and Culturally Proficient Workforce

Social and Emotional Paraprofessional development may result in seasonal employment for post-secondary or trade-school enrolled candidates 19-24 years of age and preferably pursuing health and human services careers. The innovation addresses income security and trauma-exposure simultaneously while strengthening intergenerational social connections among disconnected children, youth and young adults.

Paraprofessional development will certify participants to deliver trauma-informed social and emotional learning supports to elementary and middle school-aged students; mission-critical to developing the next generation of trauma-informed health and human service professionals. Branded as Youth Mentor’s & Specialist, employment becomes of great value in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities whereas automation is eliminating traditional, transitional jobs for young adults.

Wheatley Institute delivers 40-hours of the trauma-informed, evidence-based curriculum to participants that aspire to become intimately involved in transforming their community. Each training workshop host up to 24 participants. The final certification requires participants to present their concluding assignment before a grade school class of students to qualify for seasonal employment. Workforce participants completing the basic 40hr training course and four consecutive 12-week mentoring sessions qualify to pursue advanced training, collaborating with graduate students.
